How?

  • Initial research (in conjunction with the wildlife expert)

  • Specific walking route finalised with markers for future (outdo0r and onsite) QR posts

  • Programmed festival group walk event with artist and wildlife expert (120 minutes)

  • Encouraged by both the artist and the wildlife expert the walkers will record aspects/elements of what they hear (and see) in both audio and video using mobile phones (and related technology)

  • Post festival, walking route can be undertaken by anyone at anytime and the QR posts will have A/V clips that will mediate the walking experience

Where?

  • It is anticipated that the precise route for this walk will be devised in conjunction with a wildlife expert who would advise on the most likely ways/places the prospective walkers would experience 'hearing' nature.

Why?

  • In a visually over-stimulated society, even nature is  often understood as something to 'see' rather than 'hear'.

  • We aim to create a walking experience that draws attention to what we hear in nature as part of encouraging active listening to the natural world and relating that to (conventional) musical sounds.

  • To create an experience with both temporal and permanent dimensions with a legacy beyond the 2015 festival.

Who?

  • Children and adults from all conceivable backgrounds; singles and groups; experienced walkers and those who still don't yet own a pair of walking boots!
